COVID-19: Learn about the impact of the pandemic on fishing communities in Mexico.

To contribute to national and global efforts, Comunidad y Biodiversidad (COBI) has started a consultation process with fishers in twelve Mexico states to learn about the impacts of the pandemic, as well as the roles of the state, the local solutions applied for fishers, gender equality, the use of technology and environmental impact. Wait for our report in the first week of each month.

During the following months, we will be expanding the geographic coverage and the number of fishers in the consultation, as well as linking communities with the response and recovery mechanisms in the face of the pandemic.

Principles for the New Normal in small-scale fisheries

In this eighth and last report, Comunidad y Biodiversidad, A.C. (COBI) focused on understanding what has changed in the lives of fishers as a result of the pandemic, what has been learned during the past months, and how to safely is the return to fishing activities in the context of the new normal.

The environmental impacts of COVID-19: perspectives from fishing communities

In this seventh report, Comunidad y Biodiversidad, A.C. (COBI) documents the perceptions of small-scale fishers in Mexico on the environmental impacts in their communities and fishing areas caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Likewise, the solutions that are being developed in coastal communities to face environmental changes and challenges are shared, with the goal of promoting the recovery of the fishing sector in the context of the current crisis.

The technological revolution and the digital divide in times of the COVID-19 pandemic

In this sixth report, Comunidad y Biodiversidad, A.C. (COBI) focused on understanding how fishers are adapting to the technological change, which platforms they use and how to facilitate technology adoption during and after the pandemic. This allows the identification of opportunities to reduce the digital divide and promote the use of technology in favour of the recovery of the sector.

Access to healthcare as a human right: Perspectives from fishing communities in times of COVID-19

Comunidad y Biodiversidad, A.C. (COBI) acknowledges coastal communities’ vulnerability to the pandemic and created this analysis about the impact of COVID-19 on the access to comprehensive healthcare. This analysis offers a human-rights perspective and is based on a consultation with small scale fishers from Mexico.

Gender equality at sea? An analysis during the COVID-19 pandemic

In this fourth report, we present the results of a national consultation made by Comunidad y Biodiversidad, A.C. with small scale fishers, in order to document the impacts COVID-19 has had on men and women in fishing communities in Mexico. Incorporating a gender perspective to generate information and design adaptive solutions is an essential component of strengthening the resilience of fishing communities in the current crisis.
